My New License – it's OFFICIAL

by Lucky Red Hen on August 12, 2006

I propose that everyone owning a viral shirt wears it for their next driver license picture. Then everyone will know you are an official member of the viral club. Hear, hear.

I wish on the “weight” portion we could put “fluctuates.”

After 29, I wish women’s licenses could read “old enough to know better.”

Under “hair”, I wish it could read BLONDE instead of BLD because that looks like blood or bald.

For “height”, I wish they could list in inches instead of feet; I’d be 69“.

Like our license plates, I wish we had a choice of background picture; I’d have the SLC temple.

I’m not sure what CLASS means but I wish I weren’t rated a “D”; how about A or B?

I wish everyone else in blogland would post their driver license picture.

Jeff FINALLY Got Hitched

by Lucky Red Hen on August 10, 2006

Today has been a long time comin’ (is that the expression?). One of my missionaries (I had 4) finally got married. Out of the 4 I was for SURE this one would be married within 6 months of returning home. Well, about 8 years later he’s found his everlasting Gobbstopper. Wait. That’s not what I meant but it just fell onto the keyboard. This gal is just absolutely darling – they’re both lucky to have each other. I am thrilled that I was able to attend their wedding ceremony (a sealing, for those of you who know the lingo) just as he did mine 8+ years ago and couldn’t help but bring my camera to catch some moments (luckily their hired photographer was super-dooper-way-cool and didn’t mind me tagging along). Here are a few of my favorites from today.
Caught this little one playing on the temple steps.

This should be at the end of their album.

These are the moments I am thrilled to catch.

I heart this broach/sash combo.

This wasn’t planned – I heart capturing these moments.

New Baby Party

by Lucky Red Hen on August 8, 2006

After fighting with the computer all day, I had to settle for these teenie tiny pictures from the fabulous party we were at to welcome a new baby to the world. I hope you can see the fun we had (this is the same party the Secksy Friends pictures came from). It was a blast and the new baby is delicious (so was that vegetable dip)!
Click here to view ALL the party pictures (you can also order through this link).

Soul 2 Soul II – Tim & Faith concert Friday

by Lucky Red Hen on August 6, 2006

My best friend, Lisa, and our friend, Karen, flew down from Seattle so we could go to the Tim & Faith concert together and it was a blast! I love them both but I’m not stalker-like with all their songs memorized. AND… we didn’t go out and buy a dorky cowgirl hats to wear for the night. Now, I’d wear my regular cowgirl hat that I’ve worn before but not INDOORS – dorks – and would only wear it if I need to keep out the sun. Like, I’ll be wearing it at Swiss Days, most likely, because it’s dang sunny Labor Day weekend out in Midway, Utah. And when I wear sunglasses I can’t see the real colors of all the art there. Plus, I don’t like looking people in the sunglasses. Anyway, that’s my soapbox on cowboy hat wearing.

Oh, and I’m a crier. I cry. At the concert I cried when Faith winked at a 10 year old girl; the little girl’s face lit up, she glanced back at her mom in disbelief then turned back to Faith who confirmed the wink with a sweet little flitter-wave. I’m a wuss. I cry. I care. I’ll beat you up if you make fun of me too – so don’t try it.

So, we all had fun hanging and giggling; eating ice cream, watching silly movies (Bride & Prejudice — we don’t recommend it), So You Think You Can Dance show, taking the girls for rides on the Harley, pedicures, shopping and all the silly things girls do together.

Oh, and I finished my motorcycle training class with flying colors (whatever flying colors means) on Sunday then passed my test on Tuesday (Monday’s are the busiest at the DMV and I couldn’t wait until Wednesday when it’s the lightest traffic). I have a paper license until the permanent one is mailed to me within 3 weeks. I’ll post it so you can see my picture. Honestly, you’ll want to come back and take a look. Seriously.

Seriously.

Emma Just Turned 3

by Lucky Red Hen on July 23, 2006

Fun was had by all at Emma’s 3yr old birthday party Friday. I got these fun pics at the festive event. The girls got makeovers, nails painted and blew a plethera of bubbles (those are my favs).

The cake was especially cool. Christine is quite the gourmet cook (she’ll deny it but we all believe it to be true). Emma chose rice-krispie-treat as her cake so Christine colored it pink, pressed it into a star-shaped bundt pan, sprinkled sprinkles on top and placed it on a beautiful cake plate. It was a little oozy, moved a bit when taken out of the bundt pan but it turned out so cute and extremely tasty!

Hope everyone’s summer is going as well as 3yr old girls at a birthday party!

Day 5 of What I Did (or did not do) Today

by Lucky Red Hen on July 16, 2006

Sunday’s are usually pretty lazy around here. Last night daughter woke up asking for mommy this time (normally she asks for daddy), but she wasn’t screaming so that was nice. I didn’t get back to sleep right away so I tossed and turned for about an hour and a half. About 4ish I woke again and had trouble getting back to sleep. Tonight I think I’ll take a melatonin and see if that does the trick.

We missed the first hour of church but were right on time for the 2nd (we have 3 hours of church on Sundays). In Relief Society (women’s organization) the topic was strengthening marriages. The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman was mentioned; love, love, love that book. The bishop’s wife was invited to tell us about her parents; married 68 years, died 12 days apart and were exemplar role models in the marriage department. The stories were touching about their love and kindness to each other. While we discussed marriage I hung out with my friend’s baby, Boston, who’s about 4 months old, entertaining him then getting him to sleep (I have that knack with most other babies that are not my own, but particularly him). Speaking of but… someone said that an apology isn’t one when followed by a “but” or excuse for the behavior. Thought that was a nice way to look at saying sorry.

Returned home, ate lunch and scribbled changes to the map and phone list I keep updated for our Ward. There is a lot of growth in our neighborhood so the list gets updated regularly. Laid daughter down for her nap and jumped into my bed for my own. A couple hours later slowly woke to Posie licking herself incessantly – gross.

Edited the pictures I took yesterday – got some really great ones (like the one of the baby, above). Helped daughter with Dora games on the internet, played Frogger with son, ate Stoffer’s Frozen Lasagna & Texas Garlic Toast that hubby made for dinner and Nutter Butter’s with milk for dessert. Played the I Spy puzzle game with daughter while daddy and son played a number game before bed. Teeth brushed and into bed (not without some dramatics from daughter, of course). Read the Red Barn book to daugher in her bed then came down to the cooler-than-the-rest-of-the-friggin-hot-house-but-not-cool-enough basement; watched some Miami Ink’s and a little Robot Chicken.

Now I have to go upstairs to get Emily’s email address and send her preliminary headshot images so she can tell me which she likes best before I print them (deadline) then daddy and I will spend some time together before getting to sleep. Hey, 11:45pm – I’m not doing as bad as I thought!

This will be my last dissertation. I think I’ve accomplished what I set out to do ;O)

Day 1 of What I Did (or did not do) Today

by Lucky Red Hen on July 12, 2006

In honor of CW, I am going to post the next handful of blogs with my daily life. She has this CRAZY idea that all our lives (and by ALL I mean those of us in this close-knit blogland) are just honkey dorey and nobody has any problems. Pshaw.

Murphy’s Law: bad things happen in 3’s. This week I found out there’s a divorce happening in our family, 1 in our neighborhood that’s a friend and my SIL had an emergency surgery to remove fluid from her lungs (one side was working at 3%).

Last night we had kinda-distant cousins stay here on their way back to Minnesota; 2 adults and 5 kids. The oldest is 17 & acts like the world is ending, next is a normal boy who behaves splendidly, then a normal girl with beautiful eyes, 4th is the stomach flu victim who barfed on my bathroom shag rug and last is a 9yr old girl the size of my 6yr old boy. That last one was the 1st one up this morning and came up to our rooms freaking the dog into a barking frenzy from her kennel and giggled as it happened. I was right when I thought I needed to wear pj’s to bed last night instead of my undies; just knew I’d get a wake-up call and I didn’t want to warp whatever child was doing the waking. I drove the mom & kids to the park to play while the hubbies talked “shop”.

Received a box in the mail from My Lisa with a return-envelope & 2 quarters so I can send her the pictures I took this weekend of her boyfriend, who lives in Utah, and her, who lives in Seattle. She also sent a frame so I can print the best picture and drop it on his doorstep.

I made an appointment for our dog to get spayed/neutered next week along with her shots. Called GNC to make sure they had Melatonin “chewables” in stock so I wouldn’t waste a trip. Returned the call of a client requesting a headshot photoshoot and more kids pics. Talked to my landscaper about getting our sod. Rode my bike up to C&B’s to show-and-tell and borrow the trampoline tool so my landscaper can take ours apart to then put it back together. B is an EXTREMELY organized guy so when I couldn’t find our own tramp tool I knew he’d have his and know exactly where it was. Stopped by T’s and let her sit-and-start the bike. We agreed that it’s friggin’ hot. Drove down to the DMV and registered the bike; liked the ring of the lady who helped me. Swung by GNC and picked up the Melatonin and let the kids look at the water feature outside the store. Kept explaining to the kids that in order to get the ice cream treat they had to be super good while we ran errands. That was a tough request for 2 siblings that find joy in bugging each other (I know y’all are going to say that’s what they do; it’s just annoying). Swung by the motorcycle shop for 2 tiny tail lights. The guy was really nice and didn’t charge me — points for the parts guy. I’m sure I’ll make up for it in other parts I’ll need. Talked to the service dept. about a 2 minute shifter fix – they said to drop by with the bike and they’ll adjust it. Sweet. The kids finally performed to my satisfaction so we swung through DQ for ice cream cones. The girl got the order wrong and gave us 3 cones and a Brownie Batter Blizzard (ephen yummy) when I only needed 2 cones (kids) & blizzard (me). I didn’t realize it until I drove off. Stuck with the dilema of what to do with the extra cone I decided to eat it because it’d melt faster & messier than the blizzard that’s in a cup. Pulled up to a kid holding a “get your car washed” sign, explained the situation and offered him the blizzard. He was thrilled (I hope my kid doesn’t accept food from strangers). Funny thing though… on my way home from dinner the car wash was closed but the cup and spoon was sitting in the grass right by the corner he was standing on. Litterer.

Finally reached H and insisted we sit down so she can fill me in on life. My kids wanted to run through the sprinkler so I told them to go ahead and get their clothes wet. My son couldn’t believe his ears and said, “No, mom, that would not be good.” I have a pretty tight leash on those kids – he knew they’re not supposed to just jump into the sprinklers with clothes on. They sure had fun though and I got caught up a bit with H.

Went home. Attached my new license plate to the bike and installed the tiny lights then hubby pulled up. No, didn’t make dinner – but I’m going out with girls for dinner. Rode my bike (for myself, of course, but mostly for CW tonight) to dinner and had a lovely time with Lisa, Carina, Sistah & baby, Tiffany & kids, Melody’s Garden, Compulsive Writer, Sister Pottymouth, ~j and WendySue. Got to ride into the sunset with CW (one of her 7’s) on my bike.

Swung by a friends to talk with her hubby about his motorcycle search then ran into C on my way home. She freaked and insisted her hubby was home and would want to see so I reluctantly (just kidding) rode to their house and showed off, yet again.

Got home, iced my back, spent time with my hubby and now writing the blog. I’m spent. It’s been a long day. Tomorrow I hope there’s not as much to write about because I just realized how long this ephen post has gotten.
