How did all this get started? Let’s see…
When Madeline Murray O’Hare complained that she didn’t want any prayer in our schools.
And we said, OK.
Then, someone said you better not read the bible in school. You know, the bible that says, “thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
And we said, OK.
Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn’t spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.
And we said, an expert should know what he’s talking about, OK.
Then someone said, let’s let our daughters have abortions if they want to, and they won’t have to tell their parents.
And we said, OK.
Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they’re going to do it anyway, let’s give our sons all the condoms they want, so they can have all the fun they desire, and we don’t have to tell their parents they got them at school.
And we said, OK.
Now we’re asking ourselves why our children have no conscience,
why they don’t know right from wrong
and why it doesn’t bother them to kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, well said.
Without giving an inch, groups like the ACLU take an mile…or two.
There was a time when groups like the ACLU made sense…these days it’s like they just want to get into any kind of fight and allow any kind of behavior without using their jiminy cricket.
Definitely something to think about. The world is so messed up.
Sadly, I have to disagree with you in some part. I went to school in a different country where there was religion allowed in school, but not my religion. My religion didn’t count, it wasn’t one of the two state approved religions. I know what it’s like to be isolated and marginalized in a place where I’m supposed to be educated and included. That God wasn’t in school didn’t cause these children to commit violence, isolation in their everyday lives and mental illness caused those outcomes. Maybe if the adults in their lives had been more in tune with God and reached out to their children and neighbors those acts wouldn’t have happened. However, we can’t possibly tie a lack of religion in schools to these acts.I am so thankful that our schools are neutral, that we have the chance to meet on equal ground one with another regardless of our race, creed, and religion. I do not want another child to feel the way that I did. God will always be in the hearts of people in school and that is pleasing to me.However, I respect your opinion.
And people forget that the ACLU sometimes fights for our rights as well.
I have to say that I feel it’s more important to teach our kids at home than to rely on what they are taught at school. If they were taught God and virtue from the start, I think they would be less likely to turn to violence for expression. If we can keep them from identifying with their video games, cartoons, and movies, they will grow up moral. That isn’t to say that I don’t think God has no place in education, I just think our kids deserve to learn it from us more.
I have to disagree to a point too. I think the reason for violence in schools and our messed up society in general is upbringing not schools. Children need to learn of God in the home and taught to live good lives in the home. It’s no one else’s responsibility but the parents. I think most of our society’s problems are a result of bad parenting and/or lack of parenting. That’s just my opinion for all it’s worth.
How does spanking your children teach them that shouldn’t commit acts of violence?
Wow. I am blown away that you would write this. Not a lot of logic in this post. I agree with azucar, sarah k., cari and anonymous.
I love everybody’s comments; pro and con. This was one of those internet fwd’s that I found interesting enough to post it up and get some feedback. Boy did I!
