This song was cowritten by one of my bestie’s brothers.
His song, “Third Rock from the Sun”, provided the title of the hit TV series a few years ago. Tony Martin often has two or more songs in the country top twenty at the same time. Tony’s songwriting credits include George Strait’s “Go On” and “Living And Living Well,” plus Tim McGraw’s “Just To See You Smile,” Sara Evans’ “No Place That Far,” Lee Ann Womack’s “I’ll Think Of A Reason Later,” Joe Diffie’s “Third Rock From The Sun,” Martina McBride’s “Whatever You Say,” Mark Wills’ “Jacob’s Ladder,” Sammy Kershaw’s “Politics, Religion And Her” and George Strait’s “Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye.”
As the story goes, his teenage daughter had just lost a friend to death. In talking with his little girl about her sadness, what she remembered most about their friendship and the things she’d miss, she couldn’t think of the specifics and instead summed it up with this one sentence… I miss my friend.

I just about cried when I read this story behind the song. What a beautiful song that is.Poor little girl.
You know I’m a fan ‘o country and a fan ‘o that song. I have many long losts that I miss too. An occupational hazard is that I make friends with people that sometimes die, but thankfully don’t have to wonder where they went.

That is amazing. I love hearing/learning about people who have such talent. I am not a huge country fan but I knew many of those songs. What talent.I feel lucky that I have managed to make a few friends that have stayed with me. I love making new ones and need to do some more work on cultivating those relationships… You are wonderful.
I do. But then, sometimes, it’s almost like a new kind of sadness to realize that if I were to be with them again (or around them again), I’m not sure that it’d be the same because circumstances are so different, ya know? So…sometimes I think the reminiscing is better because the sweetness stays the same. But it’s a toss up because reunions can be so awesome.
